Ages 4 to 5 · 30-minute classes
Little Stars.
A first taekwondo class for ages four and five — thirty minutes, built around what a young child can do.
Little Stars is a thirty-minute taekwondo class for children aged four and five. It gives a young child a place to start taekwondo without being expected to keep up with older children.
Why the class is short
Thirty minutes is about the limit of a four-year-old’s attention. Keeping the class short means they can take part fully and finish wanting more, instead of running out of focus halfway through.
What they are actually learning
Every class has a warm-up, basic kicks and stances, and the fundamentals of taekwondo — how to stand, how to move, how to listen. At this age the kicks are the smaller part.
Children practise following simple directions, waiting their turn, balancing on one leg, and moving with both sides of the body. That coordination is what later kicking is built on, and it is why this age is a good time to start.
Starting where they are
No one at this age gets it right the first time, and no one is expected to. Progress comes from showing up and trying again, and Master Kim teaches the class at the pace of the children in it.
You can stay and watch
