Opening October 2026

Taekwondo is coming to Dartmouth.

Master Sanghee Kim — Kukkiwon 6th Dan, sixteen years teaching, most recently his own academy in Korea — is opening his first school in Canada at 650 Portland Street.

Areas of growth.

Every class works on the physical side of taekwondo — kicking, forms, fitness, coordination — and on the habits that come with training: focus, discipline, respect for others and confidence in yourself.

Why Nova.

A new school in Dartmouth, run by a master instructor who has taught for sixteen years and built a school of his own before this one.

Kukkiwon 6th Dan

A master-level black belt certified by the World Taekwondo Headquarters in Seoul, with a degree in taekwondo from Kyung Hee University.

Six days a week

Every program runs Monday to Friday and again on Saturday morning. Weekdays 2–9pm, Saturday 9am–1pm. Closed Sunday.

From age four

Little Stars is a 30-minute class built for four- and five-year-olds — coordination, focus and listening — before the full Kids program at six.

Family classes

Parents and children learn in the same class on Saturday at 12:05, and can join any regular weekday class together.

Questions parents ask.

The things families ask before a first class — where it is, when it opens, and what a class is actually like.

When does Nova Taekwondo open?

October 2026. The exact date will be announced once construction of the school at 650 Portland Street is finished. Registering now puts your family on the list for the first classes, and Master Kim will contact you with the opening-week schedule.

How young can my child start taekwondo?

Four. Little Stars is a thirty-minute class for ages four and five, built around what a young child can actually do — balance, coordination, listening and taking turns. Kids Taekwondo takes over at six.

Is there a trial class?

Yes. The first class is a complimentary trial — free, with no obligation to sign up. Families who register before Nova opens also join as founding members under the Founders Special.

What does taekwondo cost at Nova?

Membership depends on the program and on how many members of a family train, so the school gives rates directly rather than publishing one price. Call 902-706-5789 or email master@novataekwondo.ca.
