About Nova.
Nova Taekwondo opens in October 2026 at 650 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Master Sanghee Kim founded it to bring the art of taekwondo to the Dartmouth community and to Nova Scotia — a place he chose out of a love for Canada’s east coast.
Vision
Our vision is for Nova Taekwondo to become a lasting part of the Dartmouth community and a respected home for Taekwondo in Nova Scotia, bringing students and families together for generations to come.
Mission
Our mission is to provide high-quality Taekwondo instruction in a welcoming and supportive environment where children, teens, adults, and families can learn, grow, and challenge themselves. Through structured training and personal encouragement, we help every student build strong Taekwondo skills, develop confidence in themselves, and discover just how far they can go.
What we teach
Taekwondo, and self-defence, for children from age four, teenagers, adults and families — in four programs grouped by age, six days a week. Every class works on the physical side of taekwondo and on the habits that come with training: focus, discipline, respect for others and confidence in yourself.
The instructor
Master Sanghee Kim is the school’s owner and instructor — Kukkiwon 6th Dan, a taekwondo degree from Kyung Hee University, and head instructor of his own schools since 2010.
Affiliation
Nova Taekwondo is registering as a member club of Taekwondo Nova Scotia. Master Kim is a Kukkiwon-certified 6th Dan and a certified Master Instructor in taekwondo and hapkido.
The school
Nova is at 650 Portland Street, Unit 17, in the Atlantic Superstore plaza, where Highway 111 meets Portland Street. Parking is free in the plaza lot, and the school is a few minutes from Cole Harbour, Portland Estates, Portland Hills and Woodside.
